LIKE A LOVER :: 2010

Look at me like a lover

Drop me like a clown.

Kill me like a bumblebee

Your feet dance into the ground.

Chalk stain my body

And draw a smile in the center.

Like a jewelry box

Break open my chest to free the glitter.

Our love is a fantasy

This loss is a reality break.

These actions are gestures

No one is burning at the stake.

This separation anxiety

Is for puppies in warm beds.

This peace is death

As cold as the thoughts in my head.

Look at me like a lover

Embrace me with unease.

FIll me with your indecision

I am on my hands and knees.

Lay claim to nothing

And hold onto that peace.

What was your possession

Has now taken ownership of me.

Kill me like a bumblebee

And then hide from me in a crowd.

I could hear your breath

Even if the music weren’t so loud.

Beat your heart faster

Fear is dark but sweet like honey.

I find absence like ecstasy

Sensational but cracked out lonely.

Chalk stain my body

This scene has been seen before.

Murder is life for a phoenix

You snuff one out to create one more.

I walk with new legs

From being a natural born paraplegic.

Gods have a whimsical view

Of making disaster beautifully strategic.

Like a jewelry box

Your confusion is my diamond ring.

I asked for a black diamond

And you gave me poetry with gangreen.

You corrupt my purity

And you sedate my naivete.

But by giving me darkness

You bring out the best in me.

Our love is a fantasy

This loss is a reality break.

These actions are only gestures

No one is burning at the stake...

Love me like a lover

Burn me like a saint.

Chalk line my body

Cover me in white paint.

Take my peace as your answer

I can live and I can wait.

A bumblebee becomes a phoenix

What is now is not tomorrow’s date.
